The film “Happy” shows how filmmaker Roko Belic travels to more than a dozen countries, searching for the meaning of happiness from different individuals. According to the film, forty percent of one’s happiness is not predetermined. It uses more muscles and takes more energy to frown than to smile. While life itself can be so stressful there are a lot of ways to achieve happiness. It doesn’t necessarily have to deal with money. Find things that you enjoy doing and that brings you the ultimate happiness. In the film they mentioned the term dopamine, according to google, “dopamine is a chemical compound that is present in the body as a neurotransmitter and a precursor of other substance.” Dopamine is the molecule behind all our sinful behaviors that causes not to be happy. The easiest way to release the most dopamine is to simply do physical activity like playing a sport or exercise. I also learned what a hedonic treadmill from the film. Hedonic treadmill theory is basically not being satisfied and always wanting more which is causes people to be unhappy. In the film they mentioned intrinsic psychological goals that affect happiness which were: personal growth, desire to help others, and building close relationships. In japan they literally work people to depression and even death. They have created a term called “karoshi” which mean low levels of happiness due to be over worked. Happiness is the best medicine. What I took away from the film is that happiness comes from within. Live life to the fullest and be happy!
